Reserve Best In Show - Beagle Club of Northern Ireland CH Show 2010

Seamus joined Salenko in January 2007 from the Newlin kennel, which is based in Scotland and owned by Liz Calikes and the late David Bradley.

After much consideration I decided that I would love a CH Newlin Sailor son after seeing him at Driffield Championship Show in 2006. I loved his type and shape so I approached Liz and David ringside, and enquired. I was delighted to be informed that Sailor Jack was due to be mated to Newlin Ruby, a lovely CH Fallowfield Douglas x CH Newlin Kelsey JW daughter.

After viewing the litter I completely set my heart on a tan and white male puppy who was a "mini Jack" or as David named him "Jack 2" and was thrilled when he was allowed to come and join "Team Salenko". Seamus is pictured on the right aged 8 weeks old practising what was the be the first of many show poses!!

Known to friends as Shay, Shadey or Shim Sham, what an amazing show career this boy has had, winning almost all of his puppy and junior classes, picking up several Best Puppy Dog awards which qualified him for the prestigious "Beagle of the Year Competition" held in 2007.

Shay's success did not end there and he went on to win his Junior Warrant at only 9 months. Shay is pictured on the left winning his 24th point at Richmond Championship show 2007.

An early starter in life, Shay sired his first litter at ten months old, taking after his famous grandfathers CH Newlin Yorker and CH Fallowfield Douglas, who were both prolific stud dogs.

Shay's success was not only at Championship shows, he also won well at Open Shows gaining a Reserve Best in Show at Newton Aycliffe Open show in 2008 and numerous Hound Group wins - not bad for a tan and white boy!! These wins lead to his Show Certificate of Merit being awarded in January 2009, adding the letters "ShCM" to his ever growing registered name.

A natural showdog, who came into his own in the big ring at Crufts which seems to be a favourite show of his having picked up numerous first placings and also his 2nd Reserve Challenge Certificate.

Following on from his RCC success at Crufts, just under a month later Shay was awarded his first Challenge Certificate and was declared Best of Breed under breed specialist Jeff May (pictured right on the day)

Amazingly enough, only 6 days later Shay picked up his second Challenge Certificate at the Beagle Club of Northern Ireland Championship show under breed specialist Dr Sam Goldberg. He then went on the be awarded Reserve Best in Show. What a week - picking up CCs in both Scotland and Ireland within days of each other.

By this stage Seamus had won his way out of the Limit class so was then competing against males that had already been awarded the Champion status. He did so with success, winning the Open dog classes at the Beagle Club Championship show under judge Mrs Penny Carmichael (where he also won the Reserve Challenge Certificate), the Scottish Beagle Club Championship show under judge Mr Wal Westren and the Hound Association Championship show, under judge Mrs Jill Peak.

Shay also picked up another Reserve Challenge Certificate at Birmingham National Championship in September 2010 from breed specialist Ms Ann Phillips, taking his tally so far to 2CCs and 4 Reserve CC's.

After several Reserve Best In Show awards, Shay was awarded Best In Show at the Scottish Beagle Club Open Show in October 2010 from breed specialist Mr Denys Conway. It was a particularly nice award as Shay's daughter Newlin Chalice at Molesend JW had been awarded Best Bitch, so a father - daughter competition!! Chalice was awarded Reserve Best in Show to complete a lovely day, of Shay not only winning, but also producing winners. (Pictured on the right with his awards from SBC)

Further images of this win can be seen on the Scottish Beagle Club website.

The all important 3rd and crowning Challenge Certificate was awarded at Border Union Championship show in June 2011 (pictured, left) from breed specialist judge Mrs CM Walker. Shay was also awarded Best of Breed completing a great day for us.

Shay picked up a 4th CC with Best In Show at the Northern & Midland Counties Beagle Championship Show in August 2011 (below right).

A brilliant start has been made to Seamus' Veteran career, winning eight Best Veteran in Show awards from nine competitions.

Seamus has continued on his winning ways and has also picked up a further fifth CC and a fifth RCC from the sausage stakes!

Not only is Shay a fantastic show dog, he is a joy to live with and enjoys his daily walks to the beach.

Shay is siring very promising puppies, including the successful CH Newlin Kestrel JW ShCM, Newlin Chalice of Molesend JW (3 RCCs), German CH Franjean Ayrton Senna, German CH Franjean Adelaide for Komsilan and our own Newlin Kismet for Salenko.
