2010 News - 19th December

This weekend saw our last show of the year and what a good show it was!!

As I am Chairman of Sunderland & D.C.S, I am not permitted to handle at this show so my good friend Kirsty Young of Anorien Poodle & TT fame stepped in to handle Shay. Kirsty did a fantastic job and steered Shay to win Best of Breed under breed judge Mrs Sue Bartholomew "Fullcry" and then Best Hound in Group under another breed judge, Mr Deryck Player "Lyndex". Thank you to both judges for ending our year in style and also to Kirsty for her fabulous handling skills.....

Seamus wins Best In Show!!

I couldn't have wished for a better result this weekend when Seamus was declared Best In Show at the Scottish Beagle Club Open Show. This win was made even more special as Shay's daughter Newlin Chalice at Molesend won Best Bitch and Reserve Best In Show. What a fab result and a fab day!!

Huge thanks to breed specialist judge Mr Denys Conway "Bedeway". Thanks to Kath Parkin for the photograph of Shay with his trophy on the right. More photographs to follow soon....

7th October

Today I received great news and confirmation that Seamus has tested clear from the MLS condition that has been found in Beagles.

This is fantastic news and means that Shay is now available at stud with his MLS certificate available upon request.

26th September

Huge congratulations to Newlin Chalice at Molesend on gaining her Junior Warrant!!

Chalice is pictured on the right, showing lovely reach and drive, on her way to winning the Post Graduate class at Driffield Championship show October 2010. Thanks to Sam Dawson for this photograph xx

September has been a good month for show wins!!

At the Four Counties Beagle Club Open Show, Shay won the Open Dog class and was then awarded Best Dog from judge Mrs Sheila Miller "Millmar". He then went on to be awarded Best Opposite Sex.

Shay's daughter, Newlin Chalice at Molesend had a fantastic day too, winning 3 classes and gaining a further 2 Junior Warrant points.

3rd September

Seamus made a great start to September at the City of Birmingham Championship show. Our breed judge was Ann Phillips, a Beagle specialist who campaigns her Beagles under the Lanesend affix. In the Open dog class, Shay was placed 2nd behind the eventual DCC and BOB winner. We were then called in to the challenge and I was delighted when Shay was awarded the RCC ahead of strong competition. This was Shay's 3rd Reserve CC this year to accompany his 2 CCs that he has also been awarded. Thanks to Ms Phillips for this lovely win.

Shay is pictured on the left striding out in the challenge. Huge thanks to Sam Dawson "Rundle Beagles" for these fantastic images.

7th August

We had another great result this weekend for Shay, at the Hound Association Championship show. Our judge today was Mrs Jill Peak of Bayard Beagle fame. Shay once again won a Champion filled Open dog class. Shay is pictured on the right in the challenge for the CC. Thanks to Hermione Peach (Pakowhai Beagles) for the lovely photographs taken.

Over in the bitch ring, under judge Oonagh Gore (Duxfordham Beagles), Shay baby, Chalice wins the Junior Bitch class against strong competition.

10th July

Many congratulations to Sam & Martin Goldberg's Newlin Chalice at Molesend on winning the RCC at East of England Championship Show.

Chalice is a Shay (& Kelsey!!) baby and has made an excellent start to her show career. Hopefully she will follow in her parent's footsteps!!

20th June

Another weekend and another dog show. Fortunately this weekend the journey wasn't too far, as it was the Scottish Beagle Championship show, which makes you realise quite how far we dog folk travel when we consider a 3 hour journey to be fairly local!!

The judge this week was Mr Wal Westren of Deanery Beagles. Seamus was again entered in the Open dog class as he has won his way out of the other classes. I couldn't have asked any more of him and he showed liked a star, winning a class which contained American, Australian and British Champion dogs. Thanks to our judge for this lovely win.

Congratulations to Shay's breeder Liz, as her dog Newlin Bailiff won the dog CC. I was delighted to be asked to handle Liz' other dog Lily (Balgowan Tiger Lily) to 1st place in the Junior Bitch class. So all in all, not a bad day's work.

16th June

A long trip this weekend to the southern counties of Gloucestershire, where it was the annual championship show of the Beagle Club. The entry of over 250 dogs was split between 2 judges, and there was a lovely parade of Hounds during the lunch interval from the RAC pack.

It was Seamus first time in the Open dog class today, and what a way to begin. In strong competition, our breed specialist judge Mrs Penny Carmichael "Kernebridge" awards Shay 1st place and then the Reserve CC. In my opinion, it was a fantastic line up of lovely males. Shay also picked up the award for being the best "any other colour male" at the show, being the lovely little tan and white boy that he is!!

29th/31st May

May has been a quiet month for us show wise, so it was nice to take some time out and go and spectate at some shows. One of the shows I visited was the Tyne, Wear & Tees Hound Open show, where the judge was Miss Claire Chapman of Balderstone Beagles. This is a show which we would normally enter, however Claire has previously awarded Shay a Best of Breed (South Yorkshire Hound, Dec 2009), so it would have been, in my opinion, unsporting to enter.

I was extremely happy when Shay's daughter, Newlin Chalice at Molesend was awarded Best of Breed. Chalice is pictured on the right with her happy owner, Sam Goldberg. To top off an excellent weekend for Sam, Chalice was also awarded Best Beagle, two days later at Northumberland County show. Well done Sam and Chalice.

21st May

Today I had a very nice delivery from my postman and the Kennel Club.

Shay's official Challenge Certificates arrived which he won at the Hound Association of Scotland Championship show and the Beagle Club of Northern Ireland Championship show.

Now to find nice frames for them.....!!

17th April

Seamus wins the CC & Reserve Best In Show!!

This weekend saw the Beagle Club of Northern Ireland's turn to host their annual Championship Show. As the name suggests, our journey involved crossing waters to get to the show, which was held at Belfast. The adventure began at 9pm on Friday evening where we headed up to Stranraer to catch the 3.30am ferry across the Irish Sea.

The journey was certainly worth while, as our breed specialist judge, Mrs Sam Goldberg (Molesend/Sabinhay) awarded Seamus the Limit dog class. Seamus was then awarded his 2nd CC in 7 days!!! He also went on to win Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex. Many thanks to our judge for these fantastic awards.

10th April

Seamus wins the CC & BOB!!

What an amazing day at Hound Association of Scotland when to my delight Seamus as awarded his first CC and BOB under breed specialist Mr Jeff May "Janfrey". To top this off our travel companion Kristen and Honey won the BCC - so a very happy car going home in the glorious sunshine!!

12th March

Wow, where do I even begin...??!! Crufts 2010 was a truly memorable day, the stuff that dreams are made.

Seamus won a very strong Limit dog class after showing like a little super star and then went on to be awarded the RCC!! What a day!! Huge thanks to our breed specialist judge Mrs Jane May of Janfrey Beagles. What a fantastic way to win his way out of the Limit dog class.

Thanks also to all our friends for their kind words, congratulations and beautiful cards received. Congratulations to Seamus's daughter Chalice (Newlin Chalice at Molesend) who was placed 2nd in Special Puppy bitch only beaten by the eventual Best Puppy in Breed winner.

28th February

Today I judged the Beagle bitches at Billingham & Synthonia Canine Club. Nick Morgan of Brydea Beagles judged the Beagle dogs. We were in agreement for our Best Beagle which went to Davricard Daydream JW, We were also in agreement over our Best Puppy in Breed which went to Newlin Chalice at Molesend who also went on to be placed 2nd in the Hound Puppy Group.

10th February

Today I visited the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket to hand over my sponsorship money. I was lucky enough to raise £3200 which has been donated to the research of SRM in Beagles. Hopefully a DNA profile will be developed to prevent dogs suffering the way Murphy did.

Pictured on the right is Andrew Simmonds from the AHT fundraising team and Dr Catherine Mellersh with myself.

23rd January

Shay wins Reserve Best Hound of the Year!!

Tyne Wear & Tees Hound Club have a special competition night where a mystery judge is invited to declare Hound of the Year, Puppy of the Year and Veteran of the Year. To qualify for the event you have to have won BOB, BOS or BP at one of the two open shows they hold each year. It is run on a match system (one dog against each other) and each match is decided by drawing numbers out of a hat so you never know who you will meet.

The Hound of the Year match was held at Durham and the mystery judge was Mr Brian Foster "Stormpasture". Seamus had qualified by being awarded BOB under Kevin Hirst "Kejana" at the show in May (where he also went on to be awarded BIS4) and again under Maureen Caney "Springpine" at their November show (where he also went on to win RBIS) After about eight rounds he was finally declared Reserve Best Hound of the Year behind Gatheral's Standard Smooth Haired Dachshund, Phaeland Sheriffs Deputy. Also pictured (bottom right) is the Basset Hound Best Puppy winner, Feetham's Kimbleholme Fairytale.
